Crèma deth Taro in Arties

The Crèma deth Tarò de Arties is part of the so-called Fallas del Pyrenees, which were declared Intangible Heritage of Humanity by Unesco in 2015.

Its origins are ancient and are linked to the agrarian and solar periods. The rites that were practiced—and are still practiced—on the shortest night of the year served to thank the gods for good harvests and the arrival of good weather. They were also associated with fertility and natural regeneration ceremonies.

When the day comes, the trunk is set on fire, which is dragged through the streets and squares of Arties. The music and the shouts of the attendees, who jump over the flames, accompany the log throughout the entire journey.
